Hi there!
It’s the first post of the decade, and to kickstart 2020 I’m going to share some of the apps and sites I’ve been trying out recently.
They’re all passive income apps, because I still think My Idle Income needs more Idle in it. I don’t want another year of very little progress in the Idle Experiment just because I was too lazy to use the active earners!
And besides, apps that pay you in return for very little are the best, no?
Anyway, the apps:
UpVoice
A market research panel that pays you for browsing certain sites (so far the sites are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Amazon).
It’s a Chrome extension that works in the background, and you’ll get 300 points when you first join, followed by 10 points every day that you spend at least 2 minutes on one of those sites. And let’s face it—who doesn’t? It’s basically free money.
You can cash out 600 tokens for a $10 Amazon gift card, meaning you’ll be earning around $5 per month with UpVoice.
I’ve only just started, so only have 400 points so far. And while I wish they’d pay out to PayPal as well, I shop at Amazon all the time so it’s pretty useful anyway. So far, definite recommendation from me.
FluidStack
A service (app?) that you install on your PC that allows it to be used for different things, and pays you for it.
You can opt-in to lend bandwidth, offer your IP for regional unblocking proxies, and lend your CPU and GPU to research or video transcoding.
It’s a lot to take in, but basically the better your computer and internet, the more money you can earn from FluidStack.
Not sure about this one yet, it took a bit too much effort to get set up, and my internet connection isn’t brilliant so I’ve currently only earned $0.40. I’ll give it a bit more time, though!
Nielsen Computer Panel UK
A classic that I never got around to trying. It’s a market research panel like Smart Panel. And like Smart Panel, they’ve opted for the sweepstakes rewards instead of regular payments (boo!!).
On joining you receive one entry into the £1,000 monthly Prize Draw to be shared by 10 members (£100 each), then you get entries into monthly (5 members rewarded a share of £2500, with £100 for 5th place) and annual (10 members rewarded a share of £8000, with £350 for 4th-10th places) sweepstakes.
It’s exciting, but I’m not expecting much to come of this one. Still, much like Smart Panel it’s probably worth keeping it installed and active on the off chance I’ll actually win some money.
LoadTeam
Offer up your CPU to do ‘jobs’ while your computer is idle. According to the FAQ, by ‘jobs’, what LoadTeam actually means is ‘mine coins’. Not a bad deal, to be honest.
LoadTeam is great if there’s extended periods of time that you’re away from your computer, less great if you’re at your computer all day.
You start with a $0.20 welcome bonus, earn money for every job you complete, and can cash out every $1. I currently have $0.26—ironically my computer doesn’t have a lot of idle time.
Gener8
This one kind of comes as two different apps.
There’s Gener8 Ads, which (as the name suggests) generates ads on web pages and rewards you with points. So far I’ve only actually noticed them on eBay, but I might have missed them elsewhere.
And then there’s Gener8 Tabs, which changes your New Tab page and rewards you every time you open a new tab.
They have a Marketplace that allows you to trade your points for certain rewards, including Amazon gift cards. There are also plans to introduce an exchange rate for points to allow users to cash out in, well, cash.
This is one to watch. I use Brave as my primary web browser, which blocks ads by default (and pays you to receive ads as desktop notifications instead), so with Gener8 I’m putting them back in and getting paid for that too!
I currently have 105 points. Not sure what that’s worth yet, but it seems like a lot.
And that’s it from me!
I’m definitely enjoying this post format. It’s nice to just share what I’m trying out in a less formal way, and hopefully you guys can try out some of these too.
Or wait until there’s a proper post for them where I’m more confident of their earning potential, that’s good too.
See you next time.
Happy earning!
