Hi there!
I’ve been wanting to take a less formal approach to exploring making money online (and turning life into an idle game) for a while.
And while I’ll keep writing in-depth posts about my favourite earners, I’d also like to experiment with something a little more casual to fill the gaps.
So here it is.
This is the first of (hopefully) many posts in which I share some of the apps and services I’m trying out at the moment, and my current thoughts about each of them.
Oh My Dosh!
Anyone who’s finished 20 Cogs will know of this one—it’s where they send you on Cog 21. Oh My Dosh! is another cashback/rewards site where you can earn money for doing tasks. It’s basically 20 Cogs but without the direction, so it’s a pretty good site.
I’ve been slacking lately in the active offers department, so I only have £1.50 so far.
The site has a minimum £10 withdrawal, and pays out to PayPal. Every day there is a ‘Daily Dosh Winner’ on the site, where one member is chosen in a raffle to receive £10.
Toluna
I’d all but forgotten about Toluna until recently when the so-called ‘Consumer Insight Program’ was brought to my attention.
Toluna is another survey site (and app—Android and iOS) that rewards you points for surveys. I’d had a negative opinion of the site initially because the rewards are super expensive. It’s 190,000 points for £35 PayPal, which isn’t actually that bad, but I like regular, smaller withdrawals that make me feel some kind of progress is being made.
But(!) the Consumer Insight Program offers a browser extension for Chrome, Brave, and Firefox that pays just under £3 a month (or the points equivalent, 16,000) simply for having it installed on your browser. You also get a one-time install bonus of 10,000 points.
This update is exactly what I needed to start using Toluna again—it’s idle income now! I’ll probably be writing up a proper post when I receive my first PayPal payout. I’m currently only in the second month of using the program, so I have a total 27,741 points. It’ll be a while!
LifePoints
There’s not a whole lot to say about LifePoints. It’s a survey site (another one) that I discovered through Oh My Dosh! that rewards you points for surveys. You can cash out 575 points for £5 PayPal, so surveys typically pay between 35p and £1.05.
I’m currently completing a 7-day diary style survey where I have to log my daily hygiene routine for 580 points, which isn’t bad!
SavvyConnect
Smart Panel dealt me an act of the utmost betrayal last month. They stopped paying users £5 monthly! Instead there’s a monthly raffle that pays out £75 to 2 whole users. So naturally I had to look for an alternative.
SavvyConnect is part of SurveySavvy (yet another survey site, but I’m not here to talk about SurveySavvy). It pays you £5 every month you have it installed, just like Smart Panel did in the good old days. But what’s really great about SavvyConnect is that you can install it on multiple devices: your PC, tablet, and mobile, to earn up to £15 per month.
I only got started with SavvyConnect yesterday, so I can’t totally vouch for it just yet, but if you want to get some more idle income I’ve included a link for you.
Honeygain
Honeygain has potential to be a great idle income earner.
Share your unused net traffic with Honeygain’s network of trusted third parties, and get paid for it. Install the app on any device, connect it to the internet, and earn money.
I installed the app yesterday on my laptop and phone, and have earned around $0.50 in the first 24 hours.
Receipt Hog, Huyu, and Shoppix
Here’s something I’ve never looked at before. These apps somehow found their way into my Google Play recommended list, so I figured I’d take a look.
Take a photo of a receipt in each of these apps, and be rewarded for it. The best part is, you can submit the same receipt to all three!
Huyu rewards 5p per receipt, allowing you to cash out as Amazon gift cards at 500 points.
Receipt Hog awards 5 points per receipt, and allows you to cash out at 300 points, into amazon, mastercard or PayPal. I’m not certain how the points translate into cash yet, because I don’t have the required 300 points to see, but I assume it’s a penny a point.
Shoppix awards 25-30 points per receipt, and allows you to cash out at 3200 points into £5 PayPal, amazon, iTunes or Love2Shop vouchers. There’s also a tiny discount at higher payouts, so 11500 tokens nets you £20.
I’ve had a lot of fun testing these out, since it turned out to be super satisfying emptying my shopping bag of receipts.
And that’s pretty much it!
These are all the apps and sites I’m currently experimenting with, seeing how well they perform as ways to earn money online.
As I said at the beginning of this post, I might be making this into something more regular, but I’ll see how things go. Could be a weekly thing—the title certainly suggests as much—but it depends how many new apps I discover in the meantime.
If you’ve decided to check out any of the apps I’ve talked about, I hope they turn out to be great successes for you.
See you around!
