[Update November 20th, 2018] Since completing all 20 cogs, I’ve received my money in my account! See the payment proof at the bottom of this post.
20 Cogs is a cashback site which rewards you for Competitions, Offers, Gaming, and Surveys (see what they did there?).
It works similarly to Quidco and Topcashback. You click an offer, you fulfill the conditions, and you get your cashback.
The difference here is that you won’t receive your money right away. Instead, 20 Cogs will payout only once you have completed – you guessed it – all 20 ‘cogs’. Having recently completed my 20 cogs and received a total of £258.23, I figured it’s time to talk about it properly.
If you’d like, check out this video (made by 20 Cogs themselves) for more information, or keep reading, since I’ll probably cover mostly the same things.
The offers start off fairly easy, but get a bit more complicated as you progress.
It’s pretty standard for this sort of thing. The first few offers are freebies: OfferX, Freestuff, Aldanati, etc. Just fill out a survey and the cog should (almost) instantly complete, for around £10-£15 apiece. Then it starts to get a bit more complicated. You’ll have to start spending money to make money.
Don’t worry, though!
All of the offers that require you to spend money will pay out more as a result. An example being this offer from Dr. Vegas, which pays £35 for a deposit and wager of £10 (not to mention, you can always win your wager too!).
You can always expect trial offers, too.
My cogs included a £1 payment for a month’s trial with Which?, and free trials with Gourmet Society and Amazon Prime; paying £12.50, £2.00, and £10.00 respectively. Just remember to cancel them after the required time has passed – you don’t want to pay the full monthly fee!
A neat trick is to cancel the direct debit or PayPal payment, rather than the membership directly on the site. The site(s) usually won’t notice until they try to renew your membership, likely after you’ve already fulfilled the requirements for the cog to complete.
A few words of caution…
Take screenshots as you go, in case you need to prove you’ve actually completed any offers.
Read each offer carefully, just to make sure you’ve fulfilled exactly what the offer requires of you. I had an offer with Lottoland that required me to stay signed up for 48 hours after a £1 deposit. After just over 48 hours, I was able to cancel my account before the weekly charge came through.
The same goes for offers like graze.com – just read exactly what is required of you, and you’ll be able to move through the cogs just fine.
If you do find yourself in a situation where a cog hasn’t tracked, as long as you’ve got screenshots to prove you’ve done everything, their support team is simply amazing. You can typically expect a response at most within 72 hours.
Some cogs don’t change to ‘Completed’ straight away. 20 Cogs will show a countdown to when the merchants pay out in these cases, just under the ‘Offer Details’ heading.
If you don’t like an offer, there’s usually 2 or 3 to choose from on each cog.
Just pick which offers suit you best, and do those. You might end up earning more or less than the average of £200 (I made £258.23) depending on what you choose.
As someone who has completed a lot of the gambling-related offers via Quidco and Topcashback, I greatly appreciate this ability to change offers. Without it, I likely wouldn’t have completed my 20!
That’s pretty much it!
If you’d like, sign up to 20 Cogs, and see if you can beat my earnings!
(I bet you can’t)
